In 2013, I visited Houston’s Comicpalooza for the first time. I’d never been to a comic convention before and immediately fell in love with it. All the creative art on display, the talented cosplayers wandering the halls, the events appealing to every nerdy obsession I’ve ever held. I’ve gone every year since.
I credit Comicpalooza with reigniting a childhood love of comic books, and by extension, contributing to my desire to write and publish my own. And this year, I had the opportunity to take my books to the convention that sparked their existence.
Whether I was meeting new readers, connecting with other creators, or spending time with my family, I appreciated every second of it.
And the cherry on top? I got to meet one of my comic heroes, Chip Zdarsky!! We talked about Daredevil, Jughead, Kickstarter, and maybe one or two other things that I was too nervous at the time to remember. He also left with a copy of Hallowed North Rising, and offered very kind words of encouragement.
I’ve been applying to table at Comicpalooza for the last three years, and it finally happened. I’m confident I’ll be back, but if for whatever reason I’m not, I still got to achieve a dream this weekend. If you’ve ever supported my work in any way, from purchasing a copy of one of my books or reading this newsletter, you helped me get there.
Thank you,
Jeremiah
